Art in Calistoga

Art in Calistoga

You will find that the arts have become a big part of the Napa Valley experience. Throughout the valley you have the opportunity to enjoy the visual arts, the performing arts, and several festivals that include film, music and live theater. Explore a fabulous art exhibit at the art center, or catch a play by the local Players’ group.

Day One –

On your way to Calistoga stop in at the valley’s premier art museum that features changing exhibits besides their permanent exhibition about the history and people of Napa Valley.

Stroll downtown to check out the many fine arts galleries and shops with art, offering works from traditional to contemporary, from Italian Commedia dell’Arte to photographic art, from emerging artists to established artists, and showing both 2-dimensional to 3-dimensional art pieces. Some galleries offer live music and poetry readings to complement the art. In Calistoga the arts scene is a place to gather and socialize.

At the Mount View Hotel check in to an artist’s cottage that provides you with easel, paint, and brushes to create your own image of our area or a rendition of a loved one. Have dinner at one of downtown’s restaurants that feature work of a local artist.

Day Two –

Savor breakfast at a Calistoga resort featuring public art pieces throughout the native landscaping. Stop by the Calistoga water plant to enjoy the fun and whimsical piece of the old water truck – driver and dog included.

Go on an art tour at a local artist’s home to see impressive murals throughout the house and fascinating sculptures in the surrounding gardens. The artist himself will guide you through both outdoors and indoors.

Rent a bike and ride to local wineries by Calistoga and into the canyons to not only taste and feast on wine, but also to take in the artwork created by well-known artists.

Day Three –

Start your morning in a Zen mode and walk the River Rock labyrinth as the sun is rising. Bring the meditative and reflective mood with you that day.

Brunch at a farm-to-table eatery and enjoy the locally and organically grown fruits and vegetables. Stroll through the park and cross the river.

Check out the local museum to learn about the history of Calistoga and about the founder of the museum. His work as a Disney animator is featured as well as the Oscar he won.

Take a workshop with the local art center and let your creative juices flow. Choose between plein-air, ceramics, drawing, or studio painting. You will enjoy the professional and knowledgeable teaching.

Finish your day strolling down the main street and stop in at the wine tasting rooms to enjoy the art of wine making. Make your way to the local pottery to pick up a handcrafted ceramic bowl. Have dinner at a restaurant featuring live music.
