Perched in the foothills of Napa Valley’s premier wine and wellness destination, Calistoga, is a luxury boutique property, the Chanric Inn. Just minutes from downtown Calistoga, the Chanric Inn offers the comfort of an exclusive resort hotel in an intimate setting. Built in the late 1870s, this classic Victorian home blends elements of Victorian with modernity; modern and antique furnishings accent an eclectic art collection to create an elegant and inviting atmosphere.
Once the vacation home of the San Francisco-based Culver family, the property was purchased in 2012 by current owners Joel Haddad and Jean Marc Dollard. This dynamic duo arrived in Calistoga from Paris by way of Paraguay, transformed the home into an inn with remodeled bathrooms with marble floors, vessel sinks and sleek fixtures. They also added an open staircase made with solid walnut wood treads. The inn’s furnishings reflect its eclectic design sensibilities that add to the unique qualities of the inn.
With six king and one queen room, each features platform beds outfitted with luxurious sheets and linens, the sunlight filtering in each of the rooms complements the various pieces of unique artworks and furniture. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, but one deluxe king room, in particular, offers a larger bathroom with Jacuzzi tub, rain shower and double sink.
The main level of the house has a spacious living area where guests can watch movies, read, play games, or simply hang out. There’s also a long narrow porch on the front of the house overlooking an herb and vegetable garden. Outside in the back of the inn, a small staircase leads to a gated solar-heated pool and Jacuzzi tub to provide a welcome respite on a hot summer day – all you need to do is bring a bottle of your favorite bubbly, perhaps a local Schramsberg Vineyards sparkling wine?
If you’re interested in renting the Chanric Inn for exclusivity, a small event or family reunion, the inn can accommodate up to 25 people for an event, and has the capacity for 14 overnight guests. The kitchen is fully equipped and the six-burner stove-top is perfect for cooking up a small feast. There are two ovens — gas and electric — a microwave, and a huge refrigerator / freezer with ice-maker.
Three hours of daily maid service is included in the rate for the complete rental, but meals are the responsibility of guests.
If renting the whole inn isn’t in your plans, you may opt to rent one of the exquisite rooms and enjoy a bed and breakfast experience in which Joel and Jean Marc are on hand to prepare a delicious gourmet breakfast, along with a welcome glass of sparkling wine.
To book your bed and breakfast stay, you can phone or email the inn. Booking of the entire Inn, however, is by email only, but you can message the owners to answer any questions before confirming. Rates vary depending on the season, weekends and holidays.
