Coming to Calistoga for Wellness Week and to want to show Mother Earth some love while here? Visit Calistoga has put together a series of events celebrating Earth Day, Friday April 22nd, so reserve your spot and come along for the fun!
How about starting your day getting wet with an Aqua Dance Class? Starting at 8:15am, Calistoga Parks & Recreation and Calistoga Fit present Aqua Dance with Elly at Calistoga Community Pool. A combination of Aqua Aerobics and Aqua Yoga, Aqua Dance is a non-weight bearing workout where water is your main form of resistance. This low impact workout is great for building strength and cardiovascular stamina. With the release of gravity the body is able to find the optimum stretch. Registration is available through Calistoga Parks & Recreation here.
We suggest you continue your morning with Mother Nature with a 10am hike in Bothe-Napa Valley State Park . Join them for this rare opportunity for a Naturalist-led Hike (Coyote Peak Loop 5.5 miles) that will feature Coyote Peak which gives a partial view of Napa Valley as well as an excellent view of the forest canopy. The route is also the best overview of the impact of the 2020 Glass Fire. Though a naturalist will lead this hike, the emphasis will be on fitness—in other words, less talking and more walking! The California poppies are blooming, and wildflowers are abundant too! Park entrance fees are 1/2 off during Wellness Week so make sure you mention this when you arrive. The hike is expected to take 3 hours.
Another special hike is being held at Robert Louis Stevenson Museum and Park. Join fellow history and nature lovers, on a guided hike to the cabin site where Robert Louis Stevenson famously “squatted” with his new wife, Fanny and her son, Lloyd. This is your chance to step into history and experience Mt. St. Helena through Stevenson’s eyes! This is a free, 1.5 hour hike from the main entrance to the trail to the site with advance registration required. This is a special hike limited to 15 hikers, so reserve your spot early here and meet at the entrance of the park at 11am to start your Earth Day adventure.
Once you’ve gotten in your fitness for the day, it’s time to enjoy some vines and wines! Visit with one of our Calistoga wineries or book a tasting with our Napa Green Certified wineries who will be pouring at our Earth Day Concert; Baldacci Family Vineyards, Bennett Lane Winery and Cakebread Cellars.
Following your afternoon of tasting and exploring, take a leisurely stroll through town for some shopping in one of our boutiques or galleries or stop into the Sharpsteen Museum to brush up on Calistoga history before making your way to Pioneer Park in downtown Calistoga for a free Earth Day concert with Calistoga’s favorite Latin tribute band, MAYA. Grab your friends, a picnic and come join the fun for a pre-dinner concert with great wines. Mother Nature’s Wine Bar opens at 5pm and the music starts at 5:30pm.
After dancing the afternoon away and working up an appetite, book yourself a table at Lovina and try their special vegan menu that chef/owner Jennifer Bennett created for this week only. Or head to House of Better restaurant at Dr. Wilkinson’s Backyard Resort & Mineral Springs. This is the place where wellness meets happiness, and you won’t want to miss your sweet slice of happiness in one of their many Wellness Week offerings. Complete your meal with a slice of pie, a House of Better specialty.
With a nod to nature, wellness and all things Calistoga, your Earth Day is done! Enjoy a restful night sleep and dream a little Wellness Week dream for tomorrow. The full Calistoga Wellness Week schedule of events and special offers can be found here.
