What’s New in Calistoga this Summer

Summer is in full swing here in Calistoga in the upper Napa Valley. If you’re wondering what’s new and happening on the scene this summer, check out the list below:

Véraison  “Sparkling & Oysters” social event is offered every other Monday, from 6-8pm. To participate, guests must bring a bottle of sparkling and hand it over to the bartender. All donated bottles will be distributed among participating guests to enjoy with complimentary oysters. Next up: August 15.

Johnny’s Restaurant & Bar  Johnny’s Restaurant & Bar, and its sister restaurant, Véraison, are now serving cocktails in addition to beer and wine. Summer is the perfect time to enjoy an icy cocktail!

von Strasser & Lava Vine  In 2016, von Strasser Winery acquired Lava Vine Winery and the two brands are now offered in one location, at 965 Silverado Trail in Calistoga.

The synergy between the two brands is tremendous’, said Rudy von Strasser, whose von Strasser cabernet sauvignon wines are made exclusively from Diamond Mountain District grape sources. With the Lava Vine brand, he is expanding the pinot noir selections and introducing Grenache.

Romeo Vineyards & Cellars  Summer Pizza Pairing. Every Friday, Saturday & Sunday, from 11am to 1:30pm, guests may enjoy tastes from vineyard to table. The team at Romeo will assist in pairing brick-oven pizzas such as creamy lemon ricotta with prosciutto and wild arugula ($18) with a 2014 sauvignon blanc by glass ($10) or bottle ($24). More traditional options include the Ultimate Wine Pizza: Cabernet tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh basil topped with caramelized wine-soaked onion ($18), paired with a glass ($14) or bottle ($38) of 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet.

Earth & Sky Chocolates  Inside the array of shops within the Calistoga Train Depot, Earth & Sky offers handmade artisan chocolates and confections. Be sure to try their popular peanut butter and jelly chocolate, as well as the mint, made with pure leaf and cream. Each flavor is a burst of authentic taste.

Brian Arden Wines  “First Friday’s Social” at Brian Arden Wines from 5-7pm. Enjoy wines by the glass and small bites prepared by Chef Grace and available for purchase. This winery sits along the Silverado Trail corridor into beautiful Calistoga at the foot of the Palisade Mountains. With a small team of highly educated wine lovers, three dogs and two winemakers on hand, Brian Arden Winery runs as small family business producing less than 5,000 cases a year.

Calistoga Motor Lodge & Spa (featured photo) At the head of the Silverado Trail, in the heart of America’s most scenic wine region, you will discover Calistoga Motor Lodge and Spa, formerly Sunburst Calistoga. This newly reinvented 50-room boutique resort captures the adventurous spirit of a classic American road trip.

The resort abounds with unexpected and whimsical elements from its bathhouse-inspired spa to inviting communal spaces, cozy fire pits and an outdoor beer garden as well as fun analog games including bocce and ping-pong. You can also enjoy two outdoor swimming pools and an indoor whirlpool — all of which are fed by our own hot mineral springs.
