Wondering how to spend July 4, 2021 in Calistoga? We’ve put together a few ideas for you to while away the day and celebrate America’s independence. Come join us for some spirited fun!
Start the day with breakfast at one of our favorite spots in town, including the Calistoga Roastery and Café Sarafornia. Enjoy your java and breakfast scramble alfresco on one of the new parklets lining Lincoln Avenue.
Following breakfast, browse the collection at Ca’toga Gallery (open 11am-6pm), Sofie Contemporary Arts or explore the history of the eruption of Mount St. Helena 3.5 million years ago at The Petrified Forest (9am-6pm). This is the only Petrified Forest in California and has the largest forest of petrified trees in the world. If you are feeling exotic and want to see where the wild things are, head over to Safari West (reservations required), a 400-acre private wildlife preservation dedicated to promoting conservation by providing a unique recreational educational experience. If golf is more your thing, head over to Hidden Valley Lake Golf Course to play a round or two.
Ready for some wine and fortification? Romeo Vineyards and Cellars is continuing their 4th celebrations with complimentary hot dogs in the garden and wines by the glass from 12-3pm. Traveling with youngsters? Not a problem-soft drinks and gifts for the children will also be available. Reservations are required; call Emma to reserve your spot (415-272-6105).
For additional wine tasting options*, several Calistoga tasting rooms and wineries will be open including Bennett Lane Winery (10am-5:30pm), Clos Pegase (10am-3pm), Knights Bridge Winery (11am-5pm), Markham Vineyards (10am-5pm), Picayune Cellars & Mercantile (11am-6pm) who will also have live music from 2-4pm and W.H. Smith Wines (walks in accepted of groups less than 4) and Raymond Vineyards (10am-4pm).
Walk off your wine tasting and lunch with some retail therapy as many of our unique shops are open for the holiday including Calistoga Wine Stop (11am-6pm), Copperfields Books (10am-3pm), Stix & Stones (10am-6pm) and YAGER GALERIE (11am-5pm). If you need supplies for a BBQ at home or picnic at one of the many picnic spots in town, Cal Mart will be open from 8am-8pm on the 4th.
Now that you have put in a few thousand steps, why not kick back and enjoy some live music! Busters Southern BBQ will have live music from 3-6pm and just up the street, Hydro Grill will entertain you with tunes from 5-9pm. Enjoy your dinner at one of these Calistoga institutions or consider one of the new spots in town, Fleetwood Restaurant (at Calistoga Motor Lodge) or House of Better (at Dr. Wilkinson’s Backyard Resort & Mineral Springs).
And while sadly, there is no 4th of July Parade this year, Celebrate! Napa Valley has come up with a patriotic and fun idea-a July 4th Self-Guided Parade! They’ve put together a map of participating businesses and residents on the website here to follow the parade around town and vote for your favorite red, white and blue!
Happy Birthday America!
*Note: Many wineries are closed for the day including Hans Fahden, August Briggs, Brian Arden, Laura Michael Wines, Von Strasser Family of Wines and Vincent Arroyo Family Wines. Please be sure to call ahead as this may not be a complete list.
