Lovina Restaurant, housed in a historic 1904 building on Calistoga’s main street, exudes charm and character with its original woodwork, pocket doors, large porch, and wide front stairs. The house’s history includes serving as the mayor’s residence and a doctor’s office before becoming a restaurant. This unique space reminded Jen, the owner, of her childhood home in Nashville, setting Lovina apart from the modern, highly designed establishments typically found in Napa Valley.

The restaurant’s name honors Lovina Graves Cyrus, a remarkable woman who survived the Donner Pass ordeal in 1847, became one of California’s first female landowners, and owned the land Jen later purchased in 2008. Lovina’s story includes her legendary bravery, exemplified by shooting a bear 28 times from a walnut tree, a tale that inspired the restaurant’s motto of resilience and resourcefulness, especially through wildfires, power outages, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Inspired by Lovina’s legacy, Jen established her restaurant with a focus on female empowerment. Lovina is proudly woman-owned, managed, and chefed, offering comprehensive benefits like health and dental insurance, as well as a 401k with employer match. The restaurant’s dedication to its staff includes daily revenue sharing for the hardworking kitchen team, fostering a respectful and appreciative workplace culture. Lovina Restaurant not only celebrates its historical roots but also stands as a testament to the strength and commitment of its team, blending historical significance with modern-day values of inclusivity and respect. Through its unique story and dedicated team, Lovina offers a dining experience rich in both history and heart.
