Set back in a prime location off Lincoln Avenue just a few blocks from downtown Calistoga, at first glance, Stevenson Manor looks like an upscale apartment complex. Its grand lobby entry is trimmed with slated stone columns and wood accents, and framed by mature trees.
But a closer look finds that Stevenson Manor is actually a boutique hotel, and it has been since 1997. Operated under the Best Western Plus brand, the two-story lodge was extensively renovated last spring and it now looks like a brand new property. With just 34 rooms and suites, this inn could be considered one of Napa Valley Wine Country’s best-kept secrets.
Regardless of its contemporary motor lodge style, a stay at this hotel feels more like a private retreat. Perhaps its relaxing feel emanates from its setting, surrounded by garden courtyards and a heated lap pool and spa. Added to the landscape are views of Mt. Saint Helena and the Palisades Mountains. Guests here will enjoy a secluded stay, but less than a half mile away are dozens of antiques shops, boutiques, art galleries, restaurants and wine tasting rooms. Less than five miles away, top name wineries are ready to offer tasting experiences, and natural attractions like the Oat Hill Mine Trail are great for hiking and biking. Soft adventures continue with a Calistoga Balloons adventure and a picnic (bring your own wine and food) at Old Faithful Geyser of California.
Back inside, the Stevenson Manor refurbished rooms bring forth some thoughtful luxuries such as pillow top beds, wet bars, microwaves and refrigerators. Some rooms also feature a balcony, fireplace, or a large jetted tub.
In traditional Best Western style, the rooms pack in plenty of value. Complimentary amenities include wi-fi, parking, steam and sauna room access, fitness center privileges, in-room Peerless coffee, and cable TV with complimentary HBO.
One of the most dramatic renovations is the chic new breakfast room. A sophisticated palate of mocha, caramel and cream is a soothing start to a complimentary, daily hot buffet.
