Girls Getaway Itinerary

Calistoga is a popular “Girls Getaway” destination. Whether you are visiting for a bachelorette party, a spa getaway or just a weekend to reconnect, you can pack light and plan to relax and rejuvenate with your girlfriends, sisters or moms. Once you arrive in our little town you can bike, walk or ride the Calistoga Shuttle to all of your Calistoga fun.

Day One:

Check in to your favorite hot springs resort property. A few suggestions are: Calistoga Spa Hot Springs, Golden Haven Hot Springs Spa and Roman Spa Hot Springs. Change into your robe and feel the stress begin to melt away. Choose from a menu of restorative treatments, all designed to create a sense of renewal and well-being. Volcanic ash is a component of the restorative mud baths at many Calistoga properties. Allow time to let it all go as you enjoy a deep tissue massage focusing on the deeper levels of specific muscle groups.

Alternatively, you could stay at a quaint bed-and-breakfast such as Chien Blanc Bungalows or EuroSpa & Inn, and book spa treatments at any of the hot springs resorts in order to gain access to the mineral pools. The Spa at EuroSpa & Inn also offers onsite massages, facials, wraps and an exclusive FAR Infrared Sauna where you can detox and reduce stress.

Enjoy the afternoon during a visit to Calistoga’s Chateau Montelena. Be sure to schedule a tour of Jade Lake before tasting the wines that put Napa Valley on the world’s best wine map. The Chateau Montelena ’73 Chardonnay was a first place winner in the 1976 grand tasting at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Paris, known as the Judgement of Paris. The results proved Chateau Montelena could produce some of the world’s finest wines and that California’s wine industry had come of age.

Just down the street, also on Tubbs Lane, you will find the small, boutique property, Envy Wines. This winery is home to a friendly, laidback tasting room where you can unwind and get to know the local flavor.

With a bottle of your favorite Calistoga chardonnay in hand, dinner awaits at one of many fabulous restaurants in town. Consider a light meal at Tanit Pan-Asian Cuisine or indulge in focaccia bread and decadent pastas at Checkers Restaurant.

Day Two:

Watch the sunrise from a hot air balloon soaring over the valley with Napa Valley Aloft Balloon Rides for an unforgettable experience. Then, enjoy breakfast on the spacious patio at Solbar at Solage, an Auberge Resort, dining on creative California food inspired by the freshest locally-grown, seasonal ingredients.

If you are a guest or have scheduled a treatment at Calistoga Motor Lodge & Spa, stop for a swim in one of the property’s three mineral pools and lounge in the airy Spa Garden. You can also book mani-pedis for the group at 360 Salon & Day Spa, which also offers chair massages and more!

Enjoy a wine tasting at a boutique, family-owned Calistoga winery such as Laura Michael Wines. You might even catch a view of the regular eruption of Calistoga’s Old Faithful Geyser. Better yet, grab a to-go lunch at Sushi Mambo or Napa Valley Heritage Catering and head to the geyser cabana with a bottle of zinfandel from your visit to Laura Michael Wines. Take a seat and enjoy the geyser, a bocce ball match, and say hello to the Tennessee Fainting Goats on site. No need to worry about wine glasses or chillers for your white or sparkling wines – there’s a picnic setup area with complimentary supplies. All you have to do is enjoy the surrounding mountain views as you sip and savor beautiful Calistoga.

Head to Joseph Cellars for a tasting and tour of the wine caves, where you can also make an appointment to taste the unique wine produced by Tofanelli Wines, including Calistoga’s own charbono varietal.

Return ready to indulge in a Calistoga Classic Signature Relaxing Facial at Calistoga Skincare and Waxing, which features aromatherapy inhalation followed with cleansing, exfoliation, steam, relaxing face, shoulder, hand and arm massage and conditioning mask.

If you’re visiting town on a Thursday evening in the summer, chill out at Calistoga Concerts in the Park with a picnic takeout from one of several participating restaurants. Purchase a glass or bottle of wine from a Calistoga winery on-site and listen to some great music at Pioneer Park. All year long, you’ll find live Mariachi performances on Friday evenings at Pacifico Restaurante Mexicano, as well as great Mexican food and margaritas.

Day Three:

If you are visiting on the weekend, enjoy brunch at Evangeline or Lovina, both downtown restaurants with fresh cuisine and relaxing patios. After breakfast, stroll through downtown and check out the boutique shops, art galleries and tasting rooms along Lincoln Avenue. Try on cute tops and dresses at Funke’s, North Star Gift Shop and Sugardaddy’s Consignment, or search for antique treasures at Calistoga Depot Trading Company in the former Train Depot.

Be sure to stop at the Sharpsteen Museum to learn more about the history of Calistoga and the museum’s founder, Ben Sharpsteen, a former Walt Disney executive and Academy Award winning director. Toast to Calistoga at one of the unique downtown wine-tasting rooms, like W.H. Smith Wines which specializes in regional pinot noirs.

End with one last wine tasting at Fairwinds Estate Winery, a beautiful property with a wine cave and picnic area. You can also taste wines here from nearby boutique wineries, Canard Vineyard and Kenefick Ranch Vineyards & Winery. Relax in the cool cave and end your Calistoga visit on a high note.
