Girls Getaway

3 Day Itinerary

Wanna go somewhere fun and unique on a long-overdue girls’ getaway? A place to relax with your besties with lavish massages and spa treatments, quirky boutiques, fine dining, and some of the best wine tasting in the country.

Whether reconnecting with college buddies, planning a mother-daughter weekend, a bridal shower, or leaving the kids behind for some “me time,” you’ll find it all in Calistoga.

Pamper yourself at the Indian Springs Resort or Solage, with ample pools, hot springs, great food, and top-notch spas. Massages and other spa treatments will leave you deeply relaxed. Go retro at the Calistoga Motor Lodge, or book a reservation at Calistoga Spa Hot Springs, or Dr. Wilkinson’s Back Yard Resort & Mineral Springs, which are a bit smaller, but all have spas, pools, and hot springs. Or book a cottage at The Bungalows at Calistoga, the Brannan Cottage Inn, or Aurora Park Cottages. Most lodgings offer free cruiser bikes so you can ride the short distance downtown. But everything in Calistoga is walkable, and there’s the Calistoga Shuttle to take you around town.

If wine tasting is on the menu, pick up a map of Calistoga’s many wineries with tasting rooms from the visitor’s center; some are right downtown, and others are a short drive away. Along Lincoln Ave., you’ll find CAMI Vineyards, a contemporary art gallery and tasting room featuring award-winning, local, estate-grown wines. Down the street is Maria Concetto Winery, boasting a decadent European flair, Vault Wine + Artifacts and Picayune Cellars and Mercantile, where you can shop and sip; both feature live music on the weekends.

Just outside town, stop by Lola Wines for a tasting in a charming setting. Check out Castello di Amorosa, an authentically styled, 14th-century Tuscan castle that will make you feel like you’ve traveled to Italy. Please note that most wine tastings require reservations, so plan ahead.

Calistoga is a beautiful place to picnic, whether at Pioneer Park or the Logvy Community Park, both an easy walk from downtown. Stop by the Calistoga Depot, Sam’s General Store, Papa Lou’s Wine & Spirits, or Palisades Eatery for sandwiches, salads, sides, charcuterie, drinks, sweets, and more. Cal Mart, the town’s well-stocked grocery store, offers everything else you might need. Pack some goodies for your picnic, hike, or bike ride.

Small it may be, but Calistoga boasts top-notch restaurants, from casual to fine dining. Start with a hearty diner-style breakfast at one of the town’s oldest eateries, Cafe Sarafornia, or stop by the Calistoga Roastery or Bella Bakery for freshly made coffee, pastries, and other treats. SolBar, the restaurant at Solage, offers a tasty gourmet breakfast on its heated patio; it is also a top destination for dinner and lunch, along with its sister restaurant, Picobar, offering a modern twist on Mexican food.

One of Calistoga’s favorite spots is the Calistoga Inn Restaurant and Brewery; it’s casual and comfortable inside and out, with straightforward, delicious food and live music on the patio for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. Reserve a table at Lovina with its curated menu featuring fresh, farm-to-table ingredients for something more elevated. Or wander down to Evangeline, a classic bistro with a New Orleans-style menu. For the best Italian food in the valley in a lively setting, you’ll love Mangia Mi; the salads, antipasto, pizza, and freshly made pasta will please everyone. Sam’s Social Club and Fleetwood serve weekend brunch and dinner, too. And Mambo Sushi is recognized for its excellence throughout Napa Valley.

After your wine-tasting excursion or spa visit, check out Calistoga’s unique mix of shops. At Funkes, an old-fashioned department store, you’ll find men’s and women’s sportswear. Visit Blackbird of Calistoga for the best in home goods, including cookware, stemware, table linens, fine jewelry, cashmere scarves and wraps, and fashion-forward hats and handbags. St. Clair Clothing Company and The Loft specialize in updated womenswear, including shoes and jewelry. If you enjoy thrift shopping, take a peek in Sugar Daddy’s Consignment shop or Rags to Riches to find vintage and current treasures. Simply sit by the pool, plan a day of wine tasting, shop and dine: Calistoga is the perfect escape.
